Cryptocurrency Mining Pool Payout Mechanisms

Here's an overview of common and less common payout mechanisms used by cryptocurrency mining pools. Understanding these mechanisms can help you choose the pool that best suits your needs and risk tolerance.

Mechanism	Description
PPS	Pay Per Share (PPS): Miners are paid a fixed amount for each share of work they contribute, regardless of whether the pool finds a block. This provides a predictable income stream, but can be less profitable if difficulty increases.
PPS+	Pay Per Share Plus (PPS+): A hybrid of PPS and PROP, where miners receive a fixed amount per share plus a bonus based on pool performance. More stable income than PPS, but less profitable for the pool.
RBPPS	Round Based Pay Per Share (RBPPS): Similar to PROP, but rewards based on pool's block finding time since the last block. More profitable if the pool finds blocks quickly, but volatile if it struggles.
PPLNS	Pay Per Last N Shares (PPLNS): Miners are paid for shares that contributed to the last N blocks found by the pool. More profitable for the pool, but volatile for miners' income.
SOLO	Solo Mining: Miners mine independently, without a pool. Potentially higher rewards, but requires more resources and has lower success rate.
SMPPS	Shared Maximum Pay Per Share (SMPPS): Similar to PPS, but payout is limited to the pool's earnings from mining blocks. Protects the pool from losses, but reduces miners' profits.
PROP	Proportional (PROP): Rewards are distributed based on the amount of work each miner contributes over a period. Fair, but less predictable income.
DGM	Double Geometric Method (DGM): A variation of PPLNS that attempts to reduce variance in miner payouts (less common).
RSMPPS	Recent Shared Maximum Pay Per Share (RSMPPS): Similar to SMPPS, but uses a moving average of recent earnings to calculate payout (less common).
CPPSRB	Capped Pay Per Share with Recent Backpay (CPPSRB): Similar to PPS, but payout is capped and excess earnings are distributed back to miners over time (less common).
BPM	Bitcoin Pooled Mining (BPM): A complex system using various factors to calculate payouts (less common).
